Updated list of destroyed and damaged homes in Rancho Santa Fe

25th October 2007

I have a list of about 50 homes that were damaged or destroyed in the Rancho Santa Fe fire. This list was just updated (at 10:00am on October 29th). This is a comprehensive list from the RSF Fire Protection District and other web sites, as well as RSF Association sources. In addition, the list includes owner names and addresses. It is seperated into 3 sections (Covenant, Fairbanks Ranch, and Rancho Del Rio and East). The list will be continually updated, and for this reason along with the fact that we would like to protect everybody’s privacy, I will not publish the list on this site. However, if you are a RSF resident, or if you have friends and family in the area and you need to see the list, please send me an email and I will forward it along to you. You can contact me at julien@prusd.com

If you or anyone you know was displaced by the fires I would be happy to help them find a rental. I can also send you a few helpful links to get you back on your feet and get you started on your search…

You can also check my previous post which includes detailed RSF fire information and a Google map that pinpoints many of the address’s…

If you have information that you would like to see on this website please also email me and I will post the information right away (you can email me at julien@prusd.com) I have had over 1,000 hits a day from people searching for RSF fire information so I would like to offer this as an information portal for anyone that has news about the RSF fires…

UPDATE: On October 24th at @ 4:30 The Rancho Santa Fe Fire District released the following information on their website: “Mass mandatory evacuations are still underway for the entire Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, including the Bridges, Del Dios, The Crosby Estates, Cielo, the Covenant, Fairbanks Ranch, and 4S Ranch. Although you are not seeing any visible smoke from the area, other public safety concerns must be addressed before the District is repopulated are the downed power lines, debris and trees in the roadways, water pressure and electricity. We are working on resolving these issues and developing a plan to allow residents back into their homes. Your continued patience is requested, the Fire District will continue to expedite the recovery process as quickly as possible…” Read more at the RSF Fire District website.

As of October 23rd at about 5:00pm the local news stations are saying that roughly 40 homes in the Rancho Santa Fe area have been burned. So far there have been reports of houses burned in The Covenant, The Bridges, The Crosby, and The Summit. (If you are aware of any other areas please let us know).

On Tuesday afternoon SoCal fires stated that: “The fire swept down through Rancho Santa Fe overnight. About 35 structures were damaged, mostly homes. Now the fire is jumping the San Dieguito River, headed into Fairbanks Ranch. Officials are concerned the fire will soon jump San Dieguito Road. Winds are very gusty. Overnight, the fire burned through the Las Colinas neighborhood of Rancho Santa Fe, and several houses were destroyed. The area is littered with burnt cars. Two tanker planes are dumping retardant material on the fire line, trying to stop the flames from jumping San Dieguito Road. Several fire strike teams worked in the area last night as the fire moved through. Fire crews here have been working since Sunday night and show exhaustion. One firefighter said the temperature never cooled down last night, and while the winds settled down after dark, they kicked back up after 2 a.m. One resident, who lives on Zumaque Street, said he returned to his street last night to check on his house. “I came up and there was a wall of smoke. Everything around my house burned.” On a typical street, because of the whimsy of the winds, one house is untouched and the next is a pile of ash. In some houses that burned, water pipes burst and water is bubbling up on the property. At one destroyed house, garden hoses on the front lawn suggest that the owners tried to do something to save the house before leaving.”

Please also check our local news channel websites for updated information: NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox. You may also click this link to view the most up to date and current list of homes throughout san diego that have been destroyed during this tragic event.

I will update RSFblog.com (same as RanchoSantaFeBlog.com) as often as possible so please check back often.

Prop H bond vote is June 6th

2nd June 2006

Rancho Santa Fe School District residents will head to the polls June 6 to vote Yes or No on whether or not to pass the Prop. H bond. Prop. H. is is a $44.5 million dollar school bond initiative that would pay for a new elementary school on Aliso Canyon Road at Via del Charro. The bond would cost district residents an additional $300 per $1,000,000 of their home’s assessed value on their annual property tax bill. The district must recieve a 55 percent margin of approval to pass the bond. If Prop. H is passed construction could start by next spring.

Supporters of Prop. H say that the existing Village school (R. Roger Rowe RSF School) is overcrowded. The school currently has 837 K-8 students, but was designed for 600 students. School district officials point to the 17 portable classrooms that eat up the school’s outdoor playing space, and contend that if a new school is not built, increased class sizes and lowered educational quality are likely.

Opponents of Prop. H. say the district school is already in the ideal site, and that the existing campus should be expanded to accommodate the student population. The proposed 7-acre site, they say, will bring increased traffic that will put them in danger in case of a disaster or medical emergency, and negatively effect their tranquil, rural neighborhood…

For more information on the heated Prop H. debate you can read the full article in the Rancho Santa Fe Review.

Valet parking now available in the Village

20th April 2006

There is now valet parking available in the village of Rancho Santa Fe. Just drop your car off in front of the Rancho Santa Fe Properties office (across from the Inn) and let the valet take care of the rest.

Here is an article that appeared in the Rancho Santa Fe Review about the Valet parking situation:

“To help revive retail business in the RSF Village — which has suffered due to lack of parking space — Village merchants have joined forces to offer a valet parking service on Paseo Delicias between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week for shoppers, customers and restaurant patrons. The valet service began on Monday, April 3.

For a fee of $5 visitors to the Village can have their car parked by Pacific Valet. The cars will be parked in the Christian Science Church parking lot where 40 spaces are available, says Mille Fleurs owner Bertrand Hug who helped spearhead the program. “The church generously agreed to lease the parking space to us for a reduced fee,” Hug said.

Hug said he and other merchants helped fund the first month of the program and they are hoping the RSF Association will provide funding of about $7,500 for the remaining five months of the six-month trial period for the service.

“Because there has been no parking for so long retail business during the day has dropped dramatically in the Village,” said Hug who added that the Village Merchants Association has also been revived. “For years the RSF Village drew people from all over but with retail dwindling some of that charm has been lost. We think that by providing better access to the businesses in Rancho Santa Fe it will revive retail and bring back some excitement to the Village.”

RSF Village property owner and RSF Association Planning Committee member Marion Dodson agreed, saying, “Parking is an old problem in Rancho Santa Fe; I have been after the Association to do something about the problem for more than 20 years. We need to have another supply of parking and this is an effort to provide that parking.”

A request for funding of the valet program will likely be brought to the RSF Association board within the next month.”

For those that are new to Rancho Santa Fe I wanted to share an article that was published in the Robb Report. The Robb Report picked Rancho Santa Fe as the best place to live in the United States, followed by Greenwich, Connecticut, Palm Beach Florida, and Aspen, Colorado. “The trend in real estate today is towards communities that offer a secluded atmosphere as well as prestige,” said Daniel J. Philips, president of the Robb Report parent company Luxury Media Corp. “Whether it’s Aspen of Rancho Santa Fe, people seek the opportunity to live in an environment where
